FAQ

Questions, answered.

The most common things people want to know about Postboard — the product, pricing, features, and what happens to your work if you ever leave.

The product

What's Postboard?+
The operating system for independent work. Proposals, contracts, bookings, payments, CRM, expenses, taxes — all in one place, with zero commission. Plus a verified Track Record that follows you for the rest of your career.
What's the Track Record, and why does it matter?+
Every paid invoice, signed contract, and earned review is cryptographically signed to an append-only ledger on your profile. Anyone can verify it at postboard.io/[your-handle] or via our public API at /api/track-record/[handle]. Lenders, landlords, and future clients can check it instead of asking for tax returns. It's yours forever, even if you leave Postboard — portable, exportable, never revocable. No other freelancer platform has this.
Is Postboard a marketplace where clients post jobs?+
No. You own the client relationship end-to-end. We don't route leads to bidders, we don't take a percentage of your earnings, and we don't decide who's visible. Your clients pay you directly via Stripe Connect — Postboard is the software layer, not the middleman.

Money

How can Postboard be free?+
Core product is free because we make money on subscriptions for power-user features (custom branding, advanced analytics, unlimited AI). The more people who use Postboard, the more valuable the verified Track Record graph becomes for all of us. We'll never take a percentage of what you earn.
Will you ever take commission?+
No. Zero commission is a core principle, not a promotion. The core product is always free and we'll never take a percentage of what you earn. Standard Stripe processing fees (2.9% + 30¢) apply, and those go to Stripe, not us.
Do my clients need an account to pay me?+
No. Clients pay proposals and invoices in one tap — card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Link. If they want to track everything across every provider they've hired on Postboard, they can sign into the client portal with a magic link (no password).
Do I need a credit card to sign up?+
No. Create your account, build your profile, and send proposals without ever entering payment information. We only ask for it if you decide to upgrade.

Features

What happens when I book solid and can’t take more work?+
Turn on the refer-out marketplace. When your availability is unavailable, a refer-me-to-someone-else form appears on your public profile. We match the client to up to 3 other Postboard-verified providers by category + budget. First one to claim wins — and you earn a revenue share if the deal closes. Overflow becomes retention.
Do bookings sync with my personal calendar?+
Yes. Connect Google Calendar from your Integrations page and every new Postboard booking drops into your primary calendar with the client as attendee. Your Postboard availability also respects existing Google events — no double-booking your personal life.
Can I embed my Track Record on my own website?+
Yes. The Embed kit in your dashboard gives you three copy-paste snippets — an SVG badge (<img>), a richer iframe card with live stats, and a Markdown link for plain-text contexts. All three update automatically as your Track Record grows.
Does Postboard support agencies?+
Yes. Agency plans get organizations with team seats, shared pipeline, per- member reports, and white-label mode: your agency logo and brand color override the individual member's on every client-facing surface (public profile, proposal portal, project portal, emails). Run Postboard as your own product for your team.

Security + ownership

If I leave Postboard, what happens to my Track Record?+
Your Track Record is your property — it remains yours even if you suspend or delete your account. You can export the data at any time, and the public verification API stays reachable so third parties who have the link can confirm your historical record. The append-only ledger means entries can never be altered retroactively.
Who can see my financial details?+
Only you + admins you authorize. Verified earnings on your public Track Record show coarse bands ("$12K," "$140K") never exact amounts, and client names + emails are always private. Your precise financials live in Stripe and your own expense tracker, scoped to your account by row-level security.
Is my client data shared with other providers?+
No. Client data is private to the provider who owns the relationship. The refer-out marketplace only routes a client's brief to other providers if the originating provider explicitly submits it via the refer-out form.
